Townhouse
Office Building
Bethesda, Maryland
The principals of this firm were key personnel in the design and
preparation of construction documents for this project, a three
story office building in North Bethesda. The client requested a
colonial brick design that would look more residential than a traditional
commercial building. The design was to resemble two attached houses,
to blend with the conventional surroundings. Because three sides
of the building faced residential neighborhoods, the office building
was designed as a series of four townhouses. The design allowed
for a feeling of privacy by providing two separate two-story lobbies
with monumental stairs and chandeliers. Each lobby functioned as
the entry for two townhouses and provided access into their private
offices. Based on this design, the tenants and the neighborhood
had reduced traffic patterns.
